Our city, our data
Economic inequality, violations of privacy, and institutional racism; these forms of injustice have been further developed in recent decades through the increasing use of digital technology. As a result, under the guise of 'neutrality', algorithms reinforce existing inequality, as evidenced with the benefits scandal on a national level. Therefore, we will stop the increasing use of algorithms and other technology for surveillance. The municipality's existing digital infrastructure must also be very strictly controlled for security and fairness.
This is how we can ensure our data remains ours:
- Social security fraud must not be hunted down with file linking and algorithms.
- There will be independent supervision of the municipal data collection to ensure that there is no discrimination, ethnic profiling and violation of human rights.
- The municipality will ensure that the privacy of its residents is fully protected and respected as stipulated by law.
- The use of surveillance technology in public spaces will be limited. For example, we will introduce a local ban on smart cameras, facial recognition software and WiFi tracking.
- The municipality guarantees that all municipal digital services are accessible and that contact via the telephone or a counter remains possible.
- The municipality will use open source software and support cooperative tech alternatives.
- Tech companies like Uber and the new speed camera delivery services will come under stricter scrutiny, both for the working conditions of their employees and the data of users.
